So, here we go. The rest of October was busy. First off I had a gorgeous Senior from Florence's Mars Hill Bible School come up to Huntsville for her casual photos. We played for about 4 hours and had a great time and her photos are STUNNING.

Then I had a fun styled shoot with four of the sweetest and cutest kids dressed in vintage styled clothing. This concept came about when two of kids Mom contacted me about my Whoville Christmas Mini Sessions. I noticed that she had some painted furniture on her Facebook page and I asked her if she did it and she said she does and she sells it. So, after a few days of thinking about it, I asked her if she would be interested in doing some shots of her kids with an old dresser and she LOVED the idea so she actually painted a dresser in a beautiful golden yellow color for the shoot. Here are the results of our collaboration:

Another thing that I do in October is shooting the Army Aviation Association of American Ball. I've done this for three years and very much enjoy being a part of such a big event. Huntsville is the headquarters for Army Aviation and this even pulls in 4 Star Generals and other higher ups. Here are a few photos from the night.

October, 2011 Family Vacation at Great Wolf Lodge

So, here comes October. WOW!! October is my absolute FAVORITE month of the year. It always has been but since the birth of my daughter it forever will be. On top of her annual birthday EXTRAVAGANZA, it's a busy month in so many other ways. Fall Break lands in October; therefore, we usually take a family vacation not to mention fall festivities and people on top of people wanting portraits made during the beautiful colors of fall.

This year we had planned a backyard movie party for my daughter's 9th birthday but in lieu of a much needed "lesson" we canceled her party (postponed is more like it because I now plan to have it as an end of school party - but we won't tell her that yet). As disappointing as this was for HER, it was more disappointing to ME. I put a lot into planning her parties. I want my one and only child to grow up knowing that she was loved and that we celebrate every year we have her. I tend to end each party with the pledge to make it smaller next year but that never happens. I get an idea and it spirals into extravaganza before I can stop myself. BUT, this year the absence of the party actually came as a relief in some ways too. October was already packed with punch and here is a sampling.

VACATION AT GREAT WOLFE LODGE, MASON, OH

We began talking about a vacation during Fall Break but hadn't decided fully on where to go. We LOVE Savannah, GA and Tybee Island and had considered going there but were there twice in 2009 so really wanted to go somewhere different. We threw around the idea of going to Charleston, SC because the one time we went I wasn't feeling well and discovered I had a severe UTI when we got back home so it would be nice to go back and feel more like exploring. But, that drive would take a full day there and a full day back leaving us only a couple of actual days there so we decided to look further. We had just been to the mountains back in the spring so we didn't want to do Gatlinburg. I remembered someone mentioned Great Wolf Lodge at a Girl Scout outing and decided to check it out online. The closest one was near Cincinatti, OH, which was the same drive it would take us to get to Savannah so it was doable and Alanna would love the pools and slides. I needed a resting vacation anyway and this would allow Alanna entertainment while I could sit in a chair and watch and relax. So, that's where we went. Cincinatti is full of things to do and we do plan to return and explore more but here is a peak into our fall vacation...

During our vacation I took these photos of Alanna in her pretty fall outfit so I'll start with these even though they were taken on our last day. Isn't she pretty?

Our room was huge and it was the smallest room they have. We were very comfortable here.

This seating area was nice and the couch pulled out into a double bed so this room would easily sleep 6 people.

The slides were fun.

Each night there is an animatronics show and a bedtime story. Everyone gathers in the lobby with their PJs on.

On the 2nd day we went out exploring around the area and found this cute little garage made from a barn.

We had lunch at this cute little cafe and sat outside because the weather was so nice.

On the third day we went to the Sauerkraut Festival. It was so crowded that you couldn't even get to the booths so we left and took a different path back toward Cincinatti.

We stopped at Blue Ash Chili which was a Guy Fieri stop on Diner, Drive-Ins and Dives. Alanna and I really enjoyed the chili cheese dogs and I enjoyed the fried jalapenos. Alanna said, "They are so small but so BIG."

Since my Daddy was a sign painter, I had to stop in the Sign Museum. Unfortunately, we got there an hour before they were suppose to close but the man who run it was leaving early and we didn't get to tour it. This was the only room we saw. We did chat with him for a moment and hope to make it back there some day.

Everywhere we went we ended up showing up just before closing. We went to the museum center, which was inside of a huge train terminal. We were able to make it through one of the 4 museums there and it would be worth going back for the others. This place was beautiful and was on a hill overlooking the city scape.

On the way home the last day we stopped at the boyhood home of Abraham Lincoln

Such a small cabin and it was actually a larger cabin that his birthplace, which you will see next.

This is the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln. It is inside of a building to protect it and you're not allowed to go inside of it but you can see inside and it is very tiny.

So, there you have it, highlights from our vacation. I will finish posting about my work related endeavors tomorrow, it's time to get my girlie in bed for her first day back to school after the holiday.

So September brought a very interesting High School Senior who aspires to continue on to a career in art, which she is very good at honestly. I also second shot another wedding in south Tennessee with Lisa Rogers Photography at Natchez Hills Vineyard.

September also marked the month of my birthday. Yes, I am now 43 and proud of it. Lots of women refuse to tell their age but I am not one of those women. I've earned all my years and each one brings more adventure and I'm very proud to be 43. Sure as hell beats the alternative. :o)

FIRST DAY OF THIRD GRADE

So, in August we started back to school. I have a 3rd grader this year. She loves school so much, which makes my heart sing. Here we are on our first day.

Uniform, new crew socks, new navy blue Lands End Mary Janes AND Nike Tennis Shoes, new awesome backpack and snack bag from Garnet Hill and this year we dress out for PE so official PE uniform. Looks like we're ready to go.

Our PTO sells supply kits that include most every supply they need, which is a God send and prevents the mad rush to get every little thing on the list. I buy one every year.

Looks like they are all already settling in for a new year.

NOTHING LIKE A POP-UP SUMMER CARNIVAL

During the month of July a carnival made it's way to Athens, AL so we popped over there for some fun with my daughter and one of our neighbors. Of COURSE we had to take tutu's and hair accessories and make use of the fun photo op too.

July, 2011 brought a wedding reception in Killen, Alabama for a couple who were married at an island wedding; a styled session for a cutie pie 3 month old little boy; a 3 month old little girl and her 4 year old cousin and then I second shot a beautiful southern Tennessee wedding with my friend Lisa Rogers of Lisa Rogers Photography.

Where on EARTH did the time go? I honestly don't think my time was spent on Earth but rather in a parallel universe called photography land. I've had an interesting year to say the least. In most ways it has been AWESOME. My business has increased. I have collaborated with a neighbor who has turned friend and co-conspirator in my crazy creative brain. I have finally figured out what direction I want to take my business and I think I've got the cahonas to move it in that direction.

On a more personal level, my daughter is growing into such a wonderful little person and I couldn't be more proud of her. I love everything about her and who she is and who she is becoming and just when I think I can't love her anymore than I already do.....I do.

On another note, my Mom had to move into assisted living home in May. She was hospitalized in late June and moved into a full blown nursing home in July. She seems to have adapted well, probably better than the rest of us. It most definitely made the holidays different but we are very blessed just to have her with us so I won't complain.

I found out this year that my full-time office job is going to end in four years. I know to most that would be devastating but to me it has allowed me to breathe a sigh of relief. I have a great job where benefits and pay are concerned but the atmosphere there is very much impaired and I have lived a very stressful past 12.5 years because of it. I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel that I chose to stay in for the benefits and the pay and that, because of the same, I probably would have continued to stay in had it not been for the decision of the powers above us to phase us out. It has made me want to bring my photography to another level in hopes that I can make it my full-time job by the time my full-time job ends and, if you think about it, who EVER gets four years notice to make a life plan? Not many people do. So, I hope to use it to my benefit.

I also hope to make changes in other aspects of my life. I lost some weight about 3 years ago. I needed to lose a LOT more even then but I was still feeling very good about myself and had a lot more energy. Over the past 3 years though I have put it all back on and so I'm going to have to travel back down that road again and not only lose the weight that found its way back but put it into a Hefty Bag and send it packing along with some of its fat little friends.

So, I had a crazy second half of 2011 and I will show you some details from that in the next post.

I want to end this post with wishing and praying and hoping for strength, knowledge, health and prosperity for everyone in 2012.....May God bless you in ways you can't imagine.

Absense makes the heart grow fonder?

Let's hope so because I've surely been absent. Not that I've forgotten, I have just not posted to my blog here because I was having one designed in hopes of getting my own domain and moving this blog over to it. We started the talks in July about what I was looking for and it just hasn't come to fruition so I think it's time to say that has all fallen through and move on to Plan B. I'm going to have to start from scratch. So, I will most definitely update this blog soon while deciding on a template to purchase for my new bloggity blog. I have LOTS of sessions to share, have discovered a new path for my photography and also have some life stuff but here is a photo to intrigue you until then.

In a recent collaboration with the fabulous Luna Bella whose work can also be found on one of my big addictions ETSY, she created some beautiful fairy costumes and I created a magical setting for mini-sessions for little girls. Here is a sampling of our work...

Shrimp and Grits? Say what? That don't look like no grits in that bowl....

that's because it's PASTA.

I LOVE Shrimp and Grits. Well, I love grits period, but when you top them with cajun spiced shrimp and bacon and scallions and schmear in some cheese, oh my. Well, we all know that my family are picky eaters. I eat anything, as is obvious from the squishy roundness of my torso. My husband won't eat cheese, sour cream, mayonaise, ketchup, any tomato sauce with "chunks" of tomato among lots of other things and when it comes to veggies he is mostly a carb veggie eater (potatoes, beans, corn) but he will eat green beans and fried okra. My daughter will eat a lot of different things but she's anti-veggie as are most kids her age.

So, o.k., let me get back on track. I found a recipe for shrimp and grits from Kevin and Amanda a blog that I read. I thought it looked tasty, easy and quick, which is a plus for weeknight meals, BUT, husband won't eat shrimp and my daughter won't eat grits. I can't make this just for me so how do I adapt it? I tend to make "other" pasta dishes for my daughter and myself when I make husband's easy and favorite meal of spaghetti made with Traditional Ragu (instead of my homemade sauce but don't let me get off on that because I could go on and on and on), ground chuck and noodles. So, I thought, why not use pasta instead of grits? So, here is my adapted recipe:

Shrimp and Campanelle

1/2 box of Campanelle (or other short-cut) pasta
enough water to cover them in your pot
2 Tsp chicken boullion
boil until al dente' and be sure to reserve your water

4 strips thick-cut bacon
cook until crisp, cool and chop into bite size pieces
be sure to reserve the drippings

2 Tbsp bacon drippings
1 lb cleaned shrimp
Cajun season of your choice
1 lemon
1-2 garlic cloves minced (i used 3 because they were small and I LOVE garlic - lol)
2 green onions chopped

Sprinkle your shrimp liberally with the cajun seasoning and cook in your pan with the bacon drippings until they start to curl and turn pink. Add the juice from the lemon, the garlic and the green onions and bacon. Cook until everything has softened and heated through, just about 2-3 minutes.

Place a healthy portion of noodles in a bowl, add about 2-3 tablespoons of the reserved flavored pasta water to them, just to add some moisture. Top with the shrimp and enjoy.

This makes about 2 adult-size servings.

As a side note, I had a small piece of parmigiano cheese, almost to the rind that I wanted to use up, so I shredded it over my noodles after they were done and just mixed it in. There wasn't a LOT of cheese but parmigiano is very flavorful and doesn't require a lot for a punch.

Another option would be to sprinkle shredded cheddar on top of everything in your bowl because in Amanda's grits version, you actually put cheddar in the grits so I'm sure it would be a great addition too.

THIS is MY little baby. She's very smart, talented, loves to play dress-up and Barbies but also loves to ride her bike and doing gymnastics and playing sports. She wants to be either a Fashion Designer or a Veterinarian when she grows up but she almost became a gypsy the day I took these photos. If a band of gypsies had come by before we had left, I would have offered her up. She was NOT very pleasant to be around. Notes to self - 1) don't take daughter's friends on photoshoots if you really want to get a good shot instead of a grumpy face shot; 2) don't take daughter on photoshoot if she's hungry and it's WAY past dinner time.

BUT, this field of Canola and the field of Red Clover just BEGGED me to shoot there and I knew the flowers wouldn't last much longer so off we went.

Together with with my good friend who is also the owner of Lisa Rogers Photography we held an event in Florence, AL called the 2/2/1 Event. We advertised two photographers, two styles for the price of one. The event was just something to kick start our year and have a little fun while offering people a great deal. We had quite a bit of interest in it but last minute we had several drop out because it turned into a cold, windy day. Ashley and Derek didn't though, they were troopers too and because of it we got some great shots. Here's a sampling:

MPix Photography Convention Model Sessions - Madison, AL Photographer

In April I was so excited to get to go to the annual MPix Community Photography Convention. This thing started out as a few people from the forum getting together to hang out, shoot some photos and just talk shop. It has grown into a massive production with organized classes, great door prizes, yummy food and great parties each night. The best part about this is that it's FREE to members of the forum.

The family of Millers Laboratories provide so much more to their customers than great products and customer service. They provide us with this awesome opportunity to learn from each other online and IN PERSON. The group is seriously a family. We all help each other in every aspect of our craft, our businesses and our personal lives as well. I was thrilled to finally meet a lot more of them in person than I have already.

I took four classes, two each day and out of the four two included actual shooting. I took Senior Style OCF by the fabulous Jodi Young and The Love and The Light by the uber talented wedding photographer Scott Plauche'. One class was a business class by the super cute and amazingly talented and brilliant Jessica Edwards and the other was a Basic Lightroom class by Sandy Jagmin who was an awesome teacher.

Here is a sampling of the photos I got during my classes with Jodi and Scott...

Kayla and Kyle are a real couple so it was fun to photograph them because the actual chemistry was there just like you would find shooting an engaged or married couple. They were so cute. We really learned a lot from Scott Plauche' about posing and lighting and getting the couple to relax and feel comfortable in front of the camera.

This thing was hanging as a sign on the front of a building around the corner from where we were shooting. There were a lot of interesting sculptures and buildings in Tulsa.

Family is a true blessing. For those of us who have had trouble conceiving our children, we do truly know how lucky we are if our troubles are overcome and we are graced with a child to love us unconditionally. This little family is super sweet and since I'm behind on blogging, they have since welcomed their sweet baby boy into their family. Here is a sampling of their pre-baby family photos and mama's maternity shots.

I advertised a boudoir session for Valentine's Day.

It was a last minute thing so I only had one session but WOW was it a great one.

This couple also has a sexy yellow camaro with black racing stripes just like Bumble Bee in the movie Transformers.

So, despite frigid temperatures in January, this is what we got.

Hello my friend....

I've been neglecting you for quite some time, haven't I? Believe me when I say that you're on my mind daily. You're in my heart completely. But in my schedule, you're not. **sigh**

Life has been so busy with one thing or another and during my short downtime I was too uninspired (that's my "artsy" way of saying exhausted) to write. I roll from overwhelmed to excited to stressed to happy all at the same time when I'm so busy with this passion I have. Then I just PINE AWAY for a break until I get one and then **sigh** I miss it so much and look forward to the next one. I'm a planner, so even if something is 6 months away, my mind is crazy with the excitement and plans and details that need to be tended to in order to make it happen just the way I see it in my head. This year the breaks have been fewer and that's a great thing. So much I've done, so much I look forward to doing and so much I dream of. I am having one of the best years ever with regards to the photography world. But, that has caused me to neglect my blog and I intend to catch it up with a sampling of what has happened since I last wrote.

I've been to a photography convention where I shot quite a few models that I will share with you.
I have a cute couple that I will share with you.
I shot some cute kiddos in a field, one being my own, that I will share with you.
I also have a day of mini-sessions with a fairy theme coming up in June that I will share with you too.

That's all in addition to my daughter adding soccer to her afterschool activities this year and she recently received her First Holy Communion at church, which was a big step in our faith for our little girl. We are so proud of her.

Oh, and I can't forget to to mention our family vacation, which landed in time with the April 27, 2011 tornado disaster here in Alabama. So, I have a lot to talk about but will leave you with a promise that I have a free weekend ahead and after I clean my poor neglected house, I plan to catch up on some personal projects. This blog being the main priority.

Luna Bella Tea Party....

I had the privilege of collaborating with Tara Atkins of Luna Bella last Saturday. Luna Bella creates beautiful handmade hair pieces, necklaces and other accessories for little girls and big girls. She wanted to create a Mad Hatter Tea Party with lots of little girls wearing her products for a promotional shoot for her business. I was quite happy to do it as I'm sure you all remember my daughter's birthday party was Alice in Wonderland themed.

The cast of characters at our photo shoot were just stunning in Tara's pretties and the Mad Hatter was absolutely perfect. Now, when Tara told me that there would be 16-22 kids and that the majority of them were 5 or under I wanted to run screaming in the opposite direction but am SOOOO glad I didn't. The children were so well behaved and the one runner we had was easily bribed with sweet tarts (my secret to making any kid cooperate for at least a short time).

More to Memphis than the Blues....

Memphis is widely known for the blues, Elvis, bar-be-que and the mighty Mississippi River but there is way more to Memphis than all of this.

Back in October I attended an annual meet-up with some other photographers. We all met at an online forum but in the process of sharing our passion with each other online, confiding in, constantly encouraging and sometimes consoling each other, I don't think that one of us can say that we haven't become friends in the process. They have been meeting for several years in Memphis during the Fall just to shoot together and hang out and I have joined them the last two years. It's an awesome atmosphere to be in, so much energy and opportunity. For a peak at last year look here and also here.

This year we had more models and more photographers than last year. Some of the models were professional runway models and we also had the pleasure of shooting a local Memphis band, Blackberry Wednesday. I took my little friend Gabi with me again. She is a great model and basically stole the show (not to mention the attention of the band).

Mallory is the niece of one of the photographers. She was completely opposed to modeling but she was my little buddy the whole time so I was able to talk her into posing for me. I think they turned out great and I think that she actually liked them too.

Next is Keri. She is another of the runway models and she was absolutely a friend of the camera.

Diane is another photographer. She brings her little grand daughter Tori who is such a cute an sweet little girl. Diane has had a challenging year with the lose of her husband and she is very blessed to have this sweet little girl who so obviously deeply cares for her so I got a few shots of them together.

On Saturday night we were invited by JAD Davis to attend a runway show by Revolutionary Runway. It was an amazing experience to see the models, the fashion, the art and the papparazzi. It was definitely a different type of shooting. It was hard to catch the light and I forgot to take my flash too so that didn't help but I think I got some artsy fun looking shots nonetheless. Here are a few shots that I got.:

All in all, I wasn't necessarily on my game this weekend as I wasn't feeling well but I did enjoy the company of everyone and also got a few shots in. I hope you enjoyed seeing them. I have another photography conference to attend in April in Tulsa, Oklahoma with some of the same photographers in addition to a WHOLE LOT more. SO excited to get there and get started when my game is good.

Whoopie....It worked - Coconut Whoopie Pies

I saw THIS recipe pop up on my Paula Deen Facebook page one day and I immediately knew I had to try it. My daughter LOVES coconut so it would be a hit with her for sure. As the holidays drew closer and the thought of everything you have to purchase and do last minute became more and more overwhelming though I almost changed my mind. Instead, I decided to try to improvise with a "semi-homemade" version. Now since baking is a science, I wasn't sure if my formula would work but I was going to give it a try anyway. If I failed I wouldn't have to tell anyone but if I succeeded it would be something that my daughter and my family would really enjoy.

I purchased a white cake mix, some coconut, coconut milk (which, BTW, I had to find on the Asian food aisle of the grocery store) and coconut extract (most of the other ingredients I already had at home). The original recipe calls for 3/4 cup of coconut milk; however the boxed cake mix called for 1 cup of water. What I did was use 3/4 cup of the coconut milk and 1/4 cup of water to get 1 cup of liquid for the box mix along with the 1/3 cup of oil and 3 eggs that were called for on the box. I also added the vanilla extract called for in the original recipe even though the box doesn't call for it.

Instead of putting the coconut in the cake mix, I just sprinkled some on my tops as I was baking. I used a medium size ice cream scoop (from Pampered Chef) and scooped out 20 mounds onto my baking sheet. Once those were removed to the cooling rack I did the second batch which actually only resulted in 19 mounds. I sprinkled the tops with coconut and baked, which toasted the coconut. While that was baking I made my filling using the exact recipe as in the Paula Deen version. I whipped mine (including my cake batter) by hand instead of using an electic mixer but that's just mainly out of my laziness in not wanting to have to clean my big electric mixer because I don't have a hand held one worth mentioning. Once the butter was soft enough it was no trouble to whip it by hand though.

There was JUST enough filling for all 19 pies and schmear left to go on the lonely bottom so Alanna and I could taste test one. I will say that for this many pies it might not hurt to do 1 1/2 times the recipe if you like the filling part (which is the BEST part to me) and you want them to be a bit more substantial but you still can be pretty liberal with the filling as the recipe stands.

You might remember Jerrica and Joey from their fun engagement photo shoot here. Well, guess what? They did it. Yep, they got married on October 16 in a sweet church ceremony in Lawrenceburg, TN. Jerrica's father officiated and her mother walked her down the aisle. The reception followed immediately and if someone left there hungry then it was their own fault because they served breakfast. It was an amazing spread. The theme for the day was outdoor, woodland, fall scene with gorgeous autumn colors. Here is a sample of photos from the day.

We took the bridal photos on November 21, after the wedding, in Nashville, which was actually a great idea because the bride wasn't so worried about dirtying her dress and we were able to do some with the groom as well.

A perfect Fall day, temperatures in the low 70's, not a cloud in the sky. The scurry and excitement (and a tad bit of stress but not too much) of putting together the perfect gathering of friends and family. When these days are gone it will be something to cherish. A scrapbook in the making and memories to pass on. I say every year that I won't do it again and then the day arrives and it folds out like a perfectly orchestrated production and I start to plan the next one immediately. I do. I can't help myself. It's a gift. some say, a sickness is more definitive but, it is what it is.....my love of making people happy and my daughter is my number one victim of my sickness. I want her to be happy every day of her life. I want her to be able to tell her children and grandchildren what a great childhood she had and how much she was loved and I want there to be PROOF of it. haha Hence, the photographs....enjoy...

All good parties start with a perfect invitation to set the mood. I think this is one of my most favoritest ones of all. Photos were taken my moi and the invitation was designed by my friend Shelly Vest and my silly girl made them perfection....

As time draws near...

October is such a busy month for me the last few years. It's my FAVORITE month of the year and I feel lately like I don't get to fully relax and enjoy it. But, I try to keep in mind that I'm following my dream and this is all part of the plan. My daughter was born October 15. She is my only child. Every year, for her birthday, I celebrate her life with every fiber of my being. We call her parties birthday extravaganzas instead of parties. She has only had one party at a birthday venue and even there I put my own spin on things. This year I was inspired to use Alice in Wonderland as the theme for her party, which will be held on Halloween this year. We did the shoot for her birthday invitations back in August since I knew I would be slammed silly with photographing other people in September and October. The shoot turned out cute and as time draws near for the party I wanted to share my favorite images. So, here you have it, Alanna in Wonderland....

The tablecloth is vintage and belongs to my Mom, Alanna's MawMaw, who is still with us in body but slowly not in mind. She is suffering from Alzheimers and while she still knows her family, she is not the same sweet, loving woman who placed her family in high regards and lived to keep them happy and safe. I like to share stories with Alanna of how MawMaw was as a Mom so that she can somewhat know her and learn from her as I try to pass the lessons to her that my Mom passed to me.

The Alice in Wonderland tea set was a gift from us to my husband's Mom several years ago. She collected tea pots and thoroughly enjoyed a good cup of hot tea. We thought it only appropriate to give her a tea set representing the ultimate tea party and hoped that she and Alanna could share tea from it some day. We lost her in March, 2009 to a long term illness but Alanna has very fond memories and a strong love for her Grandmother.

So, through bits and pieces of the grand ladies who have lead to the creation of my special little girl, I hope to bring them into Wonderland with us. I will be posting photos from the birthday extravaganza after we have it. (pssst - we have a "special guest" attending too. **happy clapping** Soooo, very exciting!!)

I know it's cliche' but life really does go on with or without you. I have a friend who had a little girl. That little girl was the cutest thing ever and I spent as much time as I possibly could with her. When I would visit my friend, her daughter thought I was there to see her and she would take my hand and take me to her room to play dolls and we would lay in the floor and color together and chat about Princesses and Rugrats.

Fast forward a few years, my life takes a turn (of course there was a boy involved who has now been my husband for 11 years) and I move 60 miles away. Now it's harder to see my little friend and as time goes on we lose touch but for brief telephone conversations from time to time until my life takes another turn (a baby of my own). NOW, life is seriously complicated, I live 60 miles away and I have a little person of my own taking my time and attention.

Now 7 years have passed and I haven't seen my little friend or spoken to her or my dear friend, her Mama, at all. Once again, as an ode to Facebook, I have reunited with my dear friend and my little friend and THIS is what my little friend has grown into:

....a gorgeous, intelligent, sweet young lady with definite goals and a heart to match her beauty.

I hate that I missed some years in between but you were always in my thoughts and forever in my heart and I promise not to let time elapse again. You are everything I thought you would be and your Mama, my dear friend, is still as silly and the same strong lady with a beautiful smile that she always has been.

Jerrica and Joey have a fun story. Joey's family owns the Crockett Cinemas in Lawrenceburg, TN. They met through a mutual friend and not only did Joey ask Jerrica to be his girlfriend at the theater but he also proposed to her there. So where better to take their lasting memories of their relationship than the theater? We spent some time shooting around Lawrenceburg, as well, despite the rain that was at least drizzling all day but at times was pouring. Despite the poor timing of the rain, we could not complain about it as it was a much needed blessing and brought down the scorching heat to a bearable 88. So, please enjoy "scenes" from our day...

Rosemary's Reality Post - No. 1

I have decided to apply for a job with one of the most artistic photography teams I've ever seen. The BEST part is they are located right here in my very own town, which can only mean this is meant to be. I have been "stalking their blog" for quite some time now and get giddy with excitement every time they post. I even saw one of them driving down the road once and nearly came out of my seat trying to get beside them to wave and say, "I'M A HUGE FAN!!" But, to no avail, the Madison traffic and the traffic lights were not on my side.

So, in true Simply Bloom fashion and as an ode to Vania and Christine, here is my very first reality post.

My name is Rosemary Hayes and I'm a mom. a wife and a photographer. In order to pay the bills, I work in a law office, which is NOT an outlet for someone with an artistic soul. I am passionate about art as a whole. I dream it. I live it. I AM it.

I come from an artistic background. My dad is an amazing artist in many mediums. He creates the most beautiful portraits and landscapes. He can work in oil, pastels, pencil, you name it; and to add to the yummy bowl of fruit, he is also a photographer. He has won blue ribbons for his work in festivals and art shows but made his life as a sign painter. He never pursued a career in his passion and, in that way, I want to be different. I want to live to do what I love and love what I live to do.

I'm GREAT at visualizing and bringing to life amazing parties; therefore, my daughter has never had a boring birthday. I love anything that gives me a spark of light and pushes my mind into a frenzy of ideas and to see those ideas come to fruition. I find that my artistic outlet is in photography and entertaining and what better venue for those than weddings and babies and high school seniors trying to "be different than everybody else".

I aim to create unique and beautiful memories for my clients and, for that reason, I think I would be a perfect addition to the Simply Bloom team.

The girls of an Alabama summer....

Summer in Alabama is like living in a rain forest and it's always going to be that way. We Alabamians complain about the cold and can't wait for summer but then when the heat and humidity set in we wish for cooler days and, guess what, it's always going to be that way. Let's just thank God for the invention of the air conditioner. Amen!!

For us photographers, hot/humid is NOT our friend. We have to fight with sweat in our eyes and our models have to deal with frizzy hair and sweat to look beautiful but; nonetheless, we trudge on in hopes of those perfect images.

I spent one hot and humid day in Scottsboro recently with some other photographer friends and three beautiful models who were troopers (to put it mildly) and one cute little guy who had no idea he was going to get his photo made until Ms. Rosemary poked a camera in his face. haha Here's a sample of the beauty (and cuteness) that can come from a hot and humid Alabama summer....

"Posies" bloom each year at the side of the interstate. Luck will have it, I have access to this lovely spring event from a side road and do not have to pull off onto the side of the interstate risking, life, limb and an invitation to see a Judge. I love to take photos of my girl in these flowers and I believe this year is my favorite so far.

And the flowers were just gorgeous and vivid with color....

....upstairs, downstairs, we all fall down. Get out there and enjoy the beauty that surrounds you.

I began my love of photography by taking photos of my friends and the crazy things we would do. I later gained a love of landscape/vacation photos. Now that I'm pursuing a career in photography, I don't seem to stop and take photos for myself anymore. I often pass locations thinking, "Wow, that light is gorgeous, that would make a great photo." only to keep driving to my next destination. Sunday, on my way home from a photo shoot and from visiting my parents, I saw the sun hitting some drift wood on the Elk River and it caught my eye but I kept driving. As I crossed the bridge I decided, "I'm going back." So, I did just that, I turned my car around and I pulled off the road and this is what I came up with...

My first try at pet photography (coined Petography by the iCarly episode that was hilariously funny) wasn't so bad with some assistance from their owner. My own doggie is a spazoid and my child is also a bit hyper so I haven't been able to catch really good shot of our Chloe but these pets were cooperative, if only for a moment. It was all I needed to capture some great shots and cute personalities.

Meet Jacques! Jacques likes to dance, bark and jump. He likes long walks in new places to which he can place his mark every few steps. He doesn't meet a stranger in human or pet form. He's a handsome little fella and he knows it.

Now meet Annie. She's a slinky, friendly kitty that likes to snuggle and meet people. She's a very curious kitty with gorgeous green eyes.

And last, but not least, meet Camelot. Camelot is a very eccentric kitty who doesn't socialize very often but, in her old age (she's now 19) she has decided that it's just too much trouble to run and hide from every person that walks into her home. She sits quietly in her spot and just watches. She's a gorgeous kitty and still pretty spry for her age.

Yummy Cheddary Peppery Goodness...

I posted a couple months back that I would share recipes that I find and love. This will be my first and I'm no food photographer but I hope to get better at it as I go along. Now, despite the less than perfect photographs of these, they are absolutely perfect little nuggets of golden goodness and on top of THAT, they are easy peasy and only FOUR ingredients. I found this recipe here at the Big Black Dog Blog which I found through the Pinch My Salt Blog. If you click on Big Black Dog you will be lead to the recipe that I followed.

Now, I made these for my family for Easter and we have plenty of kids so I thought the Hot Jalapeno Pepper Jelly might be too hot for the kids so, in lieu of doing them plain, I added Cherry Preserves to some of them and they turned out great. Just another little twist on the recipe that you might enjoy, as well. Alanna says they taste like Cheez-Its. The perfect shape comes from using a melon baller to scoop them instead of rolling them by hand.

One more thing that I discovered was that the recipe at Big Black Dog says to cook them an additional 10 minutes after putting the jelly on but I think mine are a tad overcooked, especially after looking at the beautiful pictures of hers on her blog. Mine still taste great but the color is a little darker and not as golden.

I didn't advertise Easter photos but I always have to do holiday photos of my first little client ever. She's growing up so fast and her personality is just silly as you can see in her photos...

Someone stated recently that Easter is the holiday with the best candy. I certainly agree; however, Easter is about way more than candy and honestly, more relevant in Christianity that Christmas itself. Everyone enjoy the Easter holidays and remember that He gave His life for us and, if not for His selfless act of love.....well, we wouldn't want to know the ending to that story.

Well, this has been an exciting week for us. During Spring Break last year we were at Tybee Island freezing in the wind but enjoying the beauty. This year we planned to stay home so Grady took off work on Monday and Tuesday and I took the rest of week. Alanna and I had multitudes of activities listed in the Notes on my iPod that we were going to fill our days with:

Get Alanna's ears pierced
Visit the Youth Art Exhibit at the Huntsville Museum of Art
Go bowling
Go to Build-A-Bear
Get Pedicures for the both of us
~~Get Mommie's hair cut~~
Go see Alice In Wonderland
Take our annual photo of Alanna with the Buttercups

Now, we've been talking about adding a furry friend to our family for some time now and had told Alanna that we would wait until Spring so that potty training would be easier. She had her heart set on a Chihuahua, which didn't thrill me but I was going to learn to love because she was so dead set it HAD to be a Chihuahua.

On Tuesday, Grady decided to take Alanna to the Huntsville Animal Shelter to see the dogs. I asked him not to take her down there and let her fall in love with a puppy and then not let her bring it home and he said he had explained to her that they were JUST going to LOOK. I thought, "UM HUM" but I didn't say anymore. The thought that was going through my head was that GRADY would be the one to fall in love with a puppy if they got down there. Well, guess what?

Meet Chloe....

She is the SWEETEST little 4 month old Terrier mix and she is now our newest little thing to spoil. Alanna LOVES her and she has always been a bit timid around dogs. I think we found a perfect little pup.

So, to say the least, the list of activities we planned during our days off did not get crossed off except for the hair cut I had already scheduled. But, it was worth while and we will have a sweet little addition to our family for years to come.

You'll be seeing more of our furry little baby because we are ALL in love with her.

I love this photo of Alanna.

We have had more snow this year in Alabama than we've had since she was born. Never enough for her to really "play" in though. I'm hoping for some sledding snow eventually but the snow has been pretty and was the cause of some impromptu days off from school/work which is always nice.

The snow on this particular morning was large, wet flakes and it built up fairly quickly on the cars and grass but melted as quickly from the streets and driveways. As we were heading out to school Alanna, doing what kids do, had to run her hand through as much snow on the way to the car as she possibly could. Then, she drew a heart in the window, like I do for her when I'm scraping ice. As she stepped into the car, I couldn't resist snapping this photo of her with snowflakes all in her hair and a smile that shows she's a happy girl.

Kaylee and Ashlee's Valentine's shoot was another quick and fun one. Ashlee is just growing up right before our eyes and her little personality is blooming daily. My daughter loves this little one too. She even wrote about her in her journal about a week ago. She said, "I picked up candy at the parade for Ashlee because she is three and I felt good about doing that." These were all done with my fave 50mm lens and natural light. WOW ya'll the last few months have been amazingly busy. I had a great share of business for the months of October and November in addition to the shoot-out that I attended in Memphis in October. I had edited some of, what I thought at the time, were my fave shots but I've taken the time this week to finish the editing so I can get these models their photographs. Bing is the owner and dancing ninja of the Millington School of Dance, just north of Memphis and she's also amazingly talented with a camera. She puts her heart, her mind, and her soul into everything she does and I feel privileged to know her.

I enjoyed just watching her work and snuck a few shots in of Gabi as she was setting her up for some shots for a project she is working on.

As for Gabi, all of the photographers were very inspired not only by her beauty but her skills and lines as a model. Gabi knows the importance of subtlety when being directed and was a joy for everyone to work with. I was so glad when she accepted my invitation to join us and I enjoyed having her ride with me and getting to know her better.

Today I would like to thank you for bringing back a friend that I have thought about so much over the years but never in a million bazillion years thought I would EVER talk to again. Turns out the years that passed and miles that separated never erased the good memories we both shared of each other. Hands of Love

I sent Darell off to find my child who was running around the park barking like a puppy (she's seven, go figure) and asked his three kids to think of ONE word that would describe their Dad and write it on their hand. Darell has said that his son can complete his sentences so knowing Darell the way I do, I had a gut feeling what his son would write before I even met him in person. Well, guess what, he wrote the word "COOL". That is EXACTLY the word I knew he would write.

Darell, it was GREAT to see you. Your kids are gorgeous, smart and very COOL and it was an honor to meet them. I hope you enjoy the sneak peaks from the day....

Tracy and Tim are such awesome people and I have been photographing their little girl since she was 3 months old. She is such a sweet little thing. I talk to her photographs while I'm editing them. I realize how weird that is but when you work with a child in this way, you learn to read their minds and when you see the photographs it brings back every emotion, laugh, tear, etc. that you felt while in their presence. I hope I'm privileged enough to be invited to continue to watch Sophie grow. Just a few from their latest session....

I spent Friday shopping in Birmingham at Christmas Village with one of my long time good friends, Deidre. It was a great day and we spent more money on things we didn't really need but, hey, that's the purpose. lol

On Saturday, I picked up Gabi at 5:15 a.m. and we headed toward Memphis where we met about 14 other photographers and a few other models at an artists warehouse at 287 Madison Avenue. The place was amazing with textures and grit everywhere. Some of the other photographers brought in studio strobes and there were camera's everywhere. Gabi was an dream model for everyone to work with and I think she had a great time, made some great contacts and is, like me, looking forward to the chance to do it again. After a bite to eat, we walked the streets of Memphis and ended our day at the river. Here are my favorite Gabi photos...

We went to Tybee Island for our Fall Break this year and the annual Pirate Festival was held while we were there. I do intend to blog about our trip but this month has been a blur and I'm barely keeping my head above water. I will, however, not let the weekend get by without sharing my daughter's costumes. She dressed as a pirate at Tybee and again at her birthday party on the 24th so she was a bit tired of being a pirate. I told her that I thought we had the makings of an appropriate witch without having to spend money on a new costume.

We had SOOOOO much fun trick or treating in Florence in Creekwood Subdivision this year. It was the first year that we've been able to go over to Florence and we will make an effort to do that every year that we can from now on. Walking around Creekwood was like being in Halloween Town. The houses were decorated, the homeowners dressed in costume and kids were EVERYWHERE. Loved it and thanks so much to Uncle Joey and Aunt Georgina and the kids for letting us come hang out with you.

Imposter Syndrome...

Today is my birthday. Yes, 41 years ago today, I came to this earth, like all babies, with no expectations and no goals or dreams. I just existed for the pleasure of my parents and those around me. Just content with whatever morsel would be placed in my mouth and toy that would be shaken in front of me to make me giggle (which I'm sure I did a LOT of because I still giggle a lot).

When I started elementary school I was a decent student. I didn't get into trouble a lot at school and did what was expected of me. Once I got into high school, I still got decent grades but truly enjoyed the social aspects of it. I know a lot of people are very goal oriented and in high school are working diligently toward those goals, despite having any fun, but I was opposite and looked forward to whatever fun I could find.

When I reached college, I had no idea what I wanted to study. I had dreamed of the typical things that kids dream of as I grew up like the glamorous life of a rock star or a fashion designer. I had, however, listened to my MeeMaw when she told me that if I would learn the skills of a secretary that I would always be able to find work. MeeMaw worked as a secretary at an insurance company for years and could type so fast on one of those manual typewriters that I can't imagine how badly her fingers must have hurt at the end of a long day. She was a strong woman who raised four children alone. My grandfather died at the age of 36 when my Daddy, who was the 2nd oldest, was only 7 years old. MeeMaw never remarried and lived to be 83 years old. So, to get back on track of where I was going with this, I started taking classes toward a degree in Office Administration so that while I was trying to figure out what I really wanted to be when I grew up, I wouldn't be wasting any time. Like MeeMaw said, I could always use secretarial skills to fall back on if need be. Well, needless to say, that is where it ended. I got the degree and got the job and that's what I do all day during my "real" job. Over the years I've worked in a real estate office, a planning office for a large international corporation, a medical office and now I'm a legal assistant and have been for the past ten years.

I have always felt like my life was meant for so much more. Like I should be using my creativity for something other than playing. I just didn't know what, or how to achieve it. I have many interests and I'm pretty damn good at most of them, if I do say so myself. I am a great party planner and a pretty good cook. I'm good at crafting most anything and I'm a decent photographer. This comes through genetics since my Daddy is an awesome artist.

My friends noticed my passion for photography and my semi-decent skills at it and began asking me to photograph their children. I began to study more and more about how to take better photographs instead of snapshots for myself (of my own little wonder of the world) and my friend's children. I found a forum of photographers, a lot of whom are professionals and make their entire living off of photography, who were willing to share their wealth of knowledge and I have learned so much from them.

A fellow photographer recently blogged about this anamoly known as Imposter Syndrome, which I find defines my current life. I have had some seriously great things happen for me in the last few months. I have questioned whether this is truly my reality or a really awesome dream that I might wake up from someday. Fortunately (or unfortunately, however you choose to look at it), the piles of laundry, floors that need to be swept, 1st grade homework and and alarm clock remind me frequently that I am NOT asleep (at least in the physical sense).

I have finally allowed myself to actually call myself a "Photographer" instead of some chick who takes photographs for people. I place the title "Photographer" on a very high pedastal as being a photographer is SOOO much more than just being a chick (or dude) who takes photographs.

I seem to be quite busy doing this taking photographs of people thing too. As busy as one can be while trying to work a full-time day job also. I have worked with a graphic designer to create a logo that I think perfectly showcases my style and will carry me further in this venture to be a "Photographer". I think I've found my calling, mainly during my 40th year and can only dream of where it will take me in the future.

On Sunday, September 6, I had the pleasure of working with Dylan Bratcher who is the son of a longtime friend. Dylan is the sole proprieter of Dills Jams Productions and has been interested in making money since he was old enough to know what money is. He runs his DJing business and has also started a T-shirt sales business. He is only a Senior in High School this year and it will be interesting to see what Dylan accomplishes over his life with the ambition he exudes. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Dylan for his Senior Outdoor Portraits.

Bon Jour...

I spent the afternoon with my good friend Donna window shopping Bridgestreet and then seeing the much anticipated (by me anyway) Julie and Julia. Now, I have a deeper appreciation for that big beautiful woman than I ever have. Her story is so inspiring and the story of Julie Powell is, as well.

Since I was a child, I have LOVED cooking shows. I remember watching Julia's show along with Graham Kerr (The Galloping Gourmet) and Justin Wilson (I ga-ron-tee). I watched with notebook and pen in hand trying my best to write down the recipes including ingredients, measurements and instructions only to emerge most often with an incomplete recipe that I just KNOW I would have tried (with Mama's help) to cook if I had been able to catch it all. Of course, you could always write PBS for a copy of the recipe by mailing a self-addressed, stamped envelope and the "episode number". It never seemed important enough to go to that trouble.

With the emergence of the Food Network and the internet, I have become so enamored with celebrity chefs and have tried recipes from the likes of Rachael Ray, Giada Delaurentis, Paula Deen, Tyler Florence and Ina Garten.

Paula Deen's "Uncle Bubba's Beer Biscuits" are amazing and amazingly simple. Tyler Florence helped me serve Thanksgiving dinner to 30 people with his sage rubbed turkey, amazing sweet potatoes (that included a roasted banana and crumbly topping) along with a cranberry pecan dressing from Rachael Ray and some delicious braized greens. I took Ina's "Outrageous Brownies" to a New Years Eve party and still get comments about how wonderful they were. These are just a few of the Food Network recipes that I have tried and will continue to cook for my family.

While Julie Powell had a very supportive husband who was willing to try everything she cooked, I am not so blessed. My husband is one of the pickiest full grown men that I have encountered. he makes comments in some form or fashion about every single thing I cook and will not even consider eating anything that includes the likes of the following: cheese, cream, sour cream, mayonaise or "chunks" of tomatoes. Little does he know that I do put milk in some things like mashed potatoes that he cannot see it in. So, for that reason, I am very limited to the recipes that I can try for my tiny family of three but LOVE any opportunity to share food with my extended family and friends.

That being said, I have decided that I am going to share my love of food with you all through this blog. I know I CREATED this blog as a way to share my photography but food is a big part of who I am, as well. I have many facets. If I try a recipe that I love, I will share it with you here...

My little big girl is getting so grown up. Yesterday was her first day of 1st grade. Her classroom is directly across from her Kindergarten class and she got the teacher that she wanted. BONUS!!

Over the weekend we went last minute shopping and got her a new lunch box, a messenger bag instead of a backpack this year and some shiny new tennis shoes (2 pair actually but only one for school).

She's so comfortable with school and academics. Much more positive in that respect than I ever was. She's very outgoing, makes friends easily, definitely a leader and a polar opposite of myself as a child. Luckily I grew out of being shy, reserved, and afraid to take a leap and I'm trying to pass that confidence on to her at an early age.

I foresee Alanna going to the moon, rockin' out on a stage in front of thousands of people, CEO of a company that maintains a fun working environment and appreciates it's employees, something MAJORLY spectacular......but, for now, I foresee a great 1st grade....zoom zoom baby love

Roly Poly Bundle of Love...

Thanks to the power of Facebook I have been able to reconnect with some long lost friends and to stay more involved with friends that I know where to find but do not have enough hours in the day to stay in touch with. I spent this past Saturday morning with a girlfriend from High School and her three children for a photography session for her three month old baby girl. What a sweet little bundle she is too.

Beth it was so good to see you and to meet your family. I can't wait to see you again.

Karen + Jason = HAPPINESS

I had the privilege of being asked to shoot the wedding of someone who has been a part of my life for over half of my living years. Karen is the niece of Angela, my very best friend from High School. She is also close to our age, as well, so she was not just Angela's niece, she is a friend who spent significant "hang-out" time with us. In an interesting twist, years later, I married Karen's mother's youngest half-brother making me technically her Aunt, as well. That story is confusing enough but I've always loved Angela's family as my own anyway.

Karen met Jason and it's obvious he truly love her deeply. A love which she deserves. I'm glad she found someone who appreciates her for the beautiful person she is inside and out.

Now, I do not shoot weddings. I have never shot a wedding and honestly never intended to but I felt I could pull it off for Karen. From the previous blog post, it's obvious with my arm in a cast that the job could be challenging but I was bound and determined to make it work. I, luckily, had asked my good friend, Donna, to assist me and thank goodness she had accepted because it would not have run near as smooth as it did without her.

The day was the most perfect July day with temps in the low 80's and little to no humidity. That NEVER happens in July in Alabama and we are very thankful that it did.

Wow has life thrown a curve ball at me.

On Thursday, July 2, I met my friend Belinda and her little girl (the cutie in the previous post here) to show her the proofs from her session. We were letting our girls play in the fountain splash pad thingie when my girl fell. Normally a trooper, she usually pops right up and keeps going; however she landed right on her knee and began to scream. I, of course, did the typical Mommie thing and jumped up to help her only to find myself sitting flat on my hiney instead. Yes, I hit the water, my feet flew straight out in front of me and I was on the ground. My right hand was throbbing in pain and must be badly sprained. Belinda helped Alanna out of the water and went to get some ice because her knee was turning immediately black and blue and bleeding. I got out the neosporin and Barbie bandaides and made it all better. Apparently when the adrenalin faded, so did I. Belinda got back just in time for me to pass out and I woke up throwing up all over myself.

THAT, was when we realized it must be more than sprained. She took me to the e.r. (after we had to give our report to the goofy security guards) and it was x-rayed, confirming the break. And, OF COURSE, it's my RIGHT hand and I'm right handed.

So, here is where I begin my Grammy style speech:

I want to thank my friend for standing by me and taking care of me through it all until my hubs, who went to Women's and Children's first got there (i didn't break anything down THERE honey, just my arm);

I want to thank my little girl for being so sweet to me and helping Mommie do things like snap her bra that can only be done with two hands and my husband for, in his own grouchy way, taking some more of the household responsibilities under his wing;

I want to thank all my crazy friends who helped me at the lake the weekend of the 4th of July and who have offered to help me out with things such as doing my hair, etc.;

I'm very thankful right now for wash and wear hair;

I'm thankful for my left hand for taking on more responsibilities, including, but not limited to, paper duty in the potty room;

I know it goes with out saying but what Grammy speech would be official without it so:

I want to thank my Mama and my Daddy and my Lord an Saviour Jesus Christ for giving me the strength to move on...

Now, I really have learned, on more than one occassion, that we have things in life that we take for granted and this accident has brought forth some of those. I think that we should all practice with our less dominant hand to prepare for unforseen accidents such as this. For someone, such as myself, who is a typist during my day job and a photographer every other hour of the day, losing use of the right hand has posed issues beyond belief but I'm going to try to move forward and learn to do things in creative ways.

When I get frustrated, I think of that lady with no arms who had the baby and did everything, including diapering and feeding by using her feet and was more than happy to do it all. My situation will improve and hers is a life long struggle. If she can do THAT then I can do THIS for six weeks.

Downtown with a longtime friend...

It is cliche', but it truly is amazing how time flies. People who you used to spend so much time with have moved on, created families and busy lives. Those you still hold so dear to your heart may only be a short distance away but still seem so far.

My good friend from high school and I live so close to each other in a city 60+ miles from where we grew up, yet we still never seem get to see each other. We grew up in Florence, Alabama, attended Coffee High School together and spent a significant amount of time during school and social activites together. While several of us waited to have children later in life, she's the last one out of our little group of friends to have a baby. I remember the day I heard she was expecting and now that tiny little baby has grown into a 2 1/2 year old. I was shocked at how much time had passed when it only seems like just the other day.

This makes me realize so much more that life is fleeting and we should hang on so closely to the memories that we have.

I had the pleasure of shooting some pictures of Blin's little one this past Monday in downtown Huntsville. We had a great time playing and running about as 2 1/2 year olds know so well how to do. She had me wrapped around her little finger very quickly. She's a gorgeous little girl who is just as photogenic as her Mommie.

I had an incredibly good time chasing little Miss S (who just turned 18 months old) all over the Rose Garden in Decatur on a Sunday afternoon. Although the roses were not blooming, the hydrangeas were MAGNIFICENT and Little Miss S just added a sun shiney spot right in the middle of all of them.

Calling all High School Seniors...

I've been busy shooting Seniors the past few months. Late bloomers, so to speak, for the 2009 grads but I personally think the outcome was worth the wait. I'm hoping to get more High School Seniors in the coming months. I've thoroughly enjoyed working with the ones I've had the pleasure of meeting this year (Kaylee doesn't count, I've known her since she was about 6).

Now, for the sappy part. See, up above I said Kaylee doesn't count but, truth is, to me Kaylee counts the MOST of all the Seniors I've photographed. I've known Kaylee for most of her life. She lives across the street from me and she's an amazingly smart and motivated young lady. I've seen her go through so many transitions in her life, some good, some seemingly bad but she's made the most out of what life has dealt her. All of this with the support of a loving family and some great friends.

Kaylee, I want you to know how proud I am of you for your accomplishments. Life has a lot in store for you and I know you'll take the bull by the horns and make a great life for you and Ashlee despite any obstacles. I love you girlfriend. **hugs** (and STOP making me cry, sheesh)

A Fairy and a Princess...

It's not every day that you look out into your yard and see a fairy flitting by or a princess dancing and twirling to her hearts content but I had the ultimate pleasure of having both....

The weekend of Panoply we invited my niece, Makenzie, to spend the weekend with us. She was delivered by MawMaw and PawPaw on Friday night and we returned her on Sunday but the time in between was magical (after I FINALLY got them to sleep at 1 a.m.)

Saturday morning the girls slept in, we had breakfast and then off they went into the yard. It's so nice for Alanna to have a friend (cousin) to play with outside. They giggled and had a great time together. Before we started off on our adventures for the day, they wanted to play dress-up.

Once we left on our adventures for the day we went to see a movie and did some girly girl shopping at Bridgestreet. The girls had to have their faces painted and tattooe'd and the artist did a beautiful job...

The main thing that drew us to Panoply this year was that Alanna's guitar teacher, Mr. Bob Valentine, was playing at 3:30 with the Huntsville Symphony Jazz Orchestra. Mr. Bob Valentine is an AMAZING teacher to put up with my girls moods and he has taught her so much in the near year she has been going to him. The Jazz group was great, as well, with Mr. Bob's accompaniment, of course....
